Tradition, Philosophy, and todays world

The history of Jujitsu can be traced back over 2500 years. Developed in part by the Chinese cultures moving to Japan and then America and Brazil, BJJ and Judo are offshoots of Japanese ju-jitsu.

Traditionally ju-jitsu has a very strong martial component with bowing and requiring strong discipline in class, but we recognize this can be over-emphasized and takes away from the enjoyment a student can experience while learning. As an Instructor I personally see value in a good balance of discipline, respect, and fun while learning this timeless art of self defense.

Ju-jitsu's philosophy is one of non-violence, and physical altercations should be avoided whenever possible. If a self-defense circumstance does arise and cannot be avoided, Japanese ju-jitsu has a wide array of defenses that can be used in many different situations. From grabs, pulls, strikes, kicks, throws, chokes, tackles, ground defenses and more, the student can be well- versed for many defensive situations.

Along with having fun and working out while learning jujitsu self-defense, we strive to help the students with values that many young adults and even adults struggle with today, such as Honesty, integrity, respect for others, self-respect, self-discipline, listening, patience, giving your best, empathy, showing kindness, showing restraint, and improving in failure.

As a school we maintain a family environment showing patience and understanding along with confidence that our students can do better over time and with practice.
